- What do we look for?
Outstanding Entrepreneurs: Highly ambitious and driven individuals with a clear vision and the determination to challenge the boundaries of commerce. Potential for growth: Either market leaders in a fast-growing sector or first movers disrupting a large, more established market.
- What is our preferred stage of investment?
We typically invest in the early stages of our companies, and continue to support them throughout the various stages of their existence. This can be seed capital to allow a company to begin trading or conduct further research, or a company that is already trading and seeking equity capital to facilitate additional growth. We have also invested in more established companies that require operational or financial restructuring in order to capitalise on an existing opportunity.
- How involved do we get with our investments?
We won’t tell you how to run your business, but we like to help as much as we can. We are active, engaged investors and we share our network, experience and knowledge with the entrepreneurs we partner with. We often take a seat on the board but this depends on the specific circumstances of the investment.
- How long does it take to get funding?
It can take anywhere from a couple of weeks to a few months, although typically it takes 6 – 8 weeks. We often invest utilising SEIS and EIS structures and therefore advanced assurance from HMRC will reduce the time taken to close an investment.
- Which market sectors do we invest in?
We do not focus on specific market sectors. We focus on markets which are ripe for disruption. More specifically, we look for the newest entrants to the largest emerging markets, and those on the brink of explosive growth. To date we have invested in a broad range of sectors from Technology to Retail & Leisure, focussing on UK companies.
- How much do we invest?
We believe in investing the right amount of capital, not the maximum amount of capital i.e. the money you need not the maximum amount you can raise. Our investments can range anywhere from £10,000 to in excess of £250,000 and will often depend on a business’s suitability to the Seed Enterprise Investment Scheme (SEIS) and the Enterprise Investment Scheme (EIS). For more information on SEIS and EIS please visit the HMRC website: http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/seedeis/index.htm http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/eis/
- How to seek investment from Evolution Capital?
Please send your business plan to firstname.lastname@example.org or use the “Submit a Business Plan” functionality on the Contact Us page. We don’t need to see a long and detailed business plan; we’d prefer that you save your time (and ours) by getting straight to the most important points: What is your business and what stage is it at? What differentiates the business? Who are the team behind it? What funding are you seeking? If we think your business is a compelling strategic opportunity for Evolution Capital, we’ll contact you to arrange a meeting. Otherwise, we will be in touch to let you know we do not wish to explore the opportunity further.
- Do we sign Non-Disclosure Agreements?
We understand the need for confidentiality. However we prefer to have an initial discussion before a formal NDA is put in place to determine how we can help. This saves time and expense and allows us to provide a quick response. We do not expect you to provide critical or highly sensitive information, just what is sufficient to enable us to take an initial view.
